As a Journeyman Hedge - Marina was a dangerously skilled magician and one of the most skilled Hedge Witches of the series. She was able to use spells capable of killing, telekinesis, banishment, memory manipulation, and other dangerous magic. After retaining her memories from Brakebills, she became even stronger, due to the added praxis of Brakebills' curriculum and structured magic adding onto her Hedge magic and practical experiences that came with it.

Gifted Intellect - Even when the full comprehension of magical theory taught at Brakebills University was removed from her memories, Marina was still exceptionally intelligent enough to relearn it's basics, notably advancing to the point where she was the self-proclaimed most powerful hedge witch in New York. As is the standard for all Magicians, Marina possessed an at least Above Average level of intelligence that enables her to grasp the concept of magic and apply it in the physical world. Marina's intellect and magical ability was boosted to surmountable levels after restoring her stolen Brakebills knowledge, covering magical praxis not readily accessible to her as a hedge.

She is also multilingual given a lot of the magic is in various languages.

1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
Marina may not have grown up believing in much magical. There were movies she wanted to be real (the few she saw anyway). But she'd grown up in a neglectful home with a drunk for a father and a mother that didn't really do anything to help with the situation. So she'd mostly grown up relying on herself. The first time she'd witnessed her own magic was a surprise. But the reality of it didn't settle in until she actually ended up at Brakebills. She learned all the magic given to her only to have it stolen from her again. Which meant dragging herself from the bottom back up. In their world, the strongest magic comes from pain, so it might be looked on as something negative, but Marina has almost an obsession with magic. She hoarded magic, stealing from others and protectively keeping spells locked up and away, only to be shared with people she trusted to share it with. And she's very cagey about the idea of losing her own magic again. She's had too many issues with it being limited. But she also understands the importance of knowing your limits because using too much could get you killed or turned into a Niffin.


2. What mythological creature would your character most like to be? Which do they identify with? Which would they dread being? Feel free to use our Bestiary for reference.
Probably a dragon in her world's knowing of them. Very much a hoarder of treasures (magic) and knowledge. She is very much the sort that has done that and would continue to. She would likely identify with vengeful ghosts. She definitely has understood, on more than one occasion, the feeling that comes with wanting people that wronged you to be wronged in return. She wouldn't want to be tied to it, but she can at least understand it. She's been pissed off at Fogg ever since he kicked her out of the school, stole her memories of how to do magic, and shoved her into the world to remember magic and have no access to it. She's had some revenge by getting said memories back, but she's not above fucking him over more to get what she wants in the end anyway. As seen by her using his own magical spell/potion against him. Sure, there was a purpose behind it, but she kind of enjoyed doing it. As for one that she wouldn't like? Probably the colo colo because they sound absolutely gross. Who wants to feed off of saliva? That sounds gross. Also she isn't inclined to give good fortune to anyone if she doesn't need to. There's magicians who specify in that kind of magic to do that.


3. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
There is a very strong likelihood, it would be about magic or knowledge. There's a quiet part of her that could be swayed by the idea of someone caring for the person she really is. As a child, she never really had that person and she'd never really felt the need for it either. But with Anna, she's kind of realized that she wants someone to. But the most likely to easily draw her in is the promise of power or knowledge because she is always seeking to gain more power and more knowledge that can grow her magical abilities. She blew up the moon trying to gain more power for something that she wanted (which was to steal an egg that could definitely get her all kinds of money or power if she used it right. So the most likely option, and the one that she's usually wrapped up in, is knowledge and power because she's learned that it's the only way to make it in life. The more power you have, the more likely you're able to survive.


4. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
At one point in her life, she would have said Anna and there's a part of her that might still say that, but as of right now, she's kind of without that. She fundamentally changed herself as a person for Anna, just to be considered worthy of her and their relationship. She bent over backwards, going against her normal habits just to be loved by her. She'd been with her in her past life, so she wanted to get the relationship right for once in her life. But that didn't end up working out because, in the end, Anna didn't want her but an idealized version of her that never existed. And, for someone out of her timeline with no real friends or family to speak of, she doesn't have anyone that she would travel worlds, timelines, or realms for anymore. The only person she has is herself.


5. Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?
Well, considering she traveled to a timeline where the other version of herself was dead, she'd probably take it in stride. If there's anything Marina is good at, it's building a network and learning things that are important for her to learn. She would likely create a new life for herself without too much trouble. She's determined and willing to put the work in. No one out of magical circles would probably have an idea who she was...and that would be depending on if those people really kept any records. If there's anything she is used to, it's being the main person she can rely on in any given situation, so while she would probably be sad knowing that the people she knew were all likely dead and gone, she would find a way to figure it out.
